Geode Series
The Geode Series is a collection of experimental digital watercolor paintings done with an Apple Pencil on and iPad Pro in the Adobe Sketch App.
Geodes represent the many layers that remain deeply hidden in a solid surface. In life people have countless layers, not unlike the geode, hidden behind hardened barrier walls with seemingly impenetrable outer shells. This series was an exercise in what it meant for me to break down some of the barriers in the hidden rock walls of my soul.

"Abyss" - Original Digital Watercolor
“Abyss” was the first geode to spark an entire series of labrynth-like journeys into my subconscious. Creating this digital painting was the first time in a while after having kids that I was able to “lose myself” in something creative. It ended sparking my soul on fire, igniting a passion that I had forgotted I had. Losing myself into the Abyss of my subconscious was a luxury that I had longed for after giving the whole of myself to my gorgeous children.

"Bloom" - Original Digital Watercolor
“Bloom” is a rich and moody deep dive into my initial feelings about motherhood and dealing with post pardum depression. Although my core, my heart, was bursting with crimson love and adoration there was a dark blue cloud surrounding my vision, sometimes overshadowing, but never overtaking.

"Heatwave" - Original Digital Watercolor
Heatwave is a geode that was done in literally the “heat” of the moment. At the time of the 2016 presidential election, I was filled with an indescribable rage at the current political climate that I had unwittingly brought my extremely new children into. It was beyond my comprehension that people could still follow ideals that were so obviously cruel and unkind. This anger was a negative energy that absolutely needed to be purged from my soul.

"Mellow" - Original Digital Watercolor
After a series of fiery paintings, this geode came to me slowly as I was in sort of a painting “rut”. Super mellow and cool, slightly detached, I welcomed the airy feeling of calm. The soft pink and grey colors weren’t hues that I was generally accustomed to, so taking a step back from my normally bold color palette was a welcome exercise in restraint.

"Purple Orchid" - Original Digital Watercolor
Purple Orchid has a certain flow to it… kind of mimicing a droplet’s ripples when hitting a pool of liquid. Deep and centered, the rings draw your eye outward like rolling water.

"Soliloquy" - Original Digital Watercolor
Soliloquy - “An act of speaking one’s thoughts aloud, when by oneself, regardless of any hearers.”
Creating art is expressing a thought of mine that cannot be verbalized. Therefore, the very act of painting for me can be defined as a soliloquy. Whether my pieces have many viewers or none at all, each painting contains a hidden narrative that lives beyond my conscious.

"Sorbet Dreams" - Original Digital Watercolor
Unapologetically chipper and sweet, Sorbet Dreams takes the form of a happy little triad, signaling a light at the end of a tunnel

"Taking On Water" - Original Digital Watercolor
Sometimes I feel like I’m floating gracefully through life, sometimes it feels like I’m Taking On Water
