Sol is an ode to my obsession with lighthouses. There is something magical and mysterious about a round building, set in the middle of one of mother nature’s fiercest creations, that can withstand the absolute turmoil of the sea. And still become a beacon of light through the harshness of it all.
The octopus is truly the jester of the sea. I wanted to capture the playful and inquisitive aspects of the octopus while keeping in mind how truly majestic these “aliens” are. Little purple octopus would be a perfect addition to a nautical themed nursery or a little pop of color in a cozy seaside room.
The fluid lines of the sea are mesmerizing. Sitting quietly at a shoreline watching the waves rhythmic dance can clear my head like nothing else. Getting lost in these lines while painting is a whole other form of meditation for me. This piece is an homage to the delicate yet chaotic flow of the magical ocean.
Confession: I let a lot of people I shouldn’t take currency from my mind. The “odd something” someone said to me, that “thing” someone did to make me feel less worthy, that “level” someone else is at that I am not. All of these empty thoughts unnecessarily take up currency that I should be investing in myself, spending on my own personal journey and growth. Just like sand dollars are a precious commodity of the ocean, my thoughts are a finite resource. If taken freely by others, there will be nothing left to give to myself.
It’s actually super hard to suppress the urge to stop the car every time I see wildflowers on the side of the road. Summer time in Canada brings out some of the most incredible colors I’ve ever seen!! This piece is just a little homage to the pops of color that make a road trip from Florida to Canada bright and whimsical.
Lighthouses have always held an extremely deep meaning in my life. They seem like such resolute and brooding fixtures to produce so much guided light! Even as a wave crashes over, the lighthouse stands tall and steadfast, unwavering in the middle of the sea.
Each seashell is created as its home by an individual animal who have their own consciousness. Each seashell, therefore, has its own story to tell. That information can be accessed whenever we hold a particular shell or even if we just look at one in a photograph.
Coming across a stingray in the wild is truly a magical encounter. These quiet creatures seem to glide over glass when they swim. The ocean is a tough terrain, but stingrays have the confidence and elegance to make it look like a dream.
Change, alteration, modification, variation, conversion, revision, amendment, metamorphosis, transfiguration, evolution, mutation.... whatever you call it, it’s not easy, but often the most necessary part of growth.
“Electric Sea” came about as a quick little sketch, studying ocean life and sea kelp. I wanted to capture the electric life that can be hidden just below the surface of the ocean. It turned into a vibrant little piece of art, bold in its colors and stance yet delicate and free flowing with soft lines snaking delicately across strong leaf walls.
Did you know that when finding their (lifetime!) mating partner, seahorses engage in an 8 hour courting dance in which they swim side by side, spin around and change colors? It makes me think of an underwater Flamenco dance! This little coral colored seahorse would be the perfect partner for an ocean and sea themed baby nursery!
Bubble Shells is an original digital watercolor created with the ebb and flow nature of the ocean floor in mind. Each shell has its own delightfully unique shape, personality and color while blending harmoniously together as a team. Along that same design, “Bubble Shells” would blend beautifully within any nautical themed setting just as well as it would stand alone as a pop of whimsical sea floor decor.
Dragonflies have been appearing in my thoughts about painting lately so I decided to do a little digging. “The dragonfly will appear as your spirit animal just in the moment when you feel stuck or blocked in your own creativity.” Wow!!! This was particularly right on track for me at the moment. I’m totally digging the dragonfly as my spirit animal right now.
“Keep The Light” was inspired while reminiscing about a trip to Alaska that I was fortunate enough to be a part of. It truly felt like I was exploring an untouched part of the world. A memory that will stay with me forever is one where I was standing alone at the bow of a boat and a gentle giant surfaced beside me to say hello. I was quite literally sprayed by a whale! It was a quiet and surreal moment that will be forever etched into my memory.
Saltwater Heart is a whimsical little mermaid deconstruction perfectly suited for any coastal themed home or ocean themed baby nursery! Each scale was hand painted to mimic the light’s reflection on the scales of an ocean creature.
I have had the absolute privilege of being able to spend a great deal of time in the Bahamas. One of my favorite spots in Nassau has a secluded little beach that you can easily slip a paddle board into the water, sometimes without another soul around. One of these such times I was gliding peacefully when not one but two eagle rays joined me, jumping and dancing at the bow of my board. Surreal doesn’t even being to describe the experience! Paradise Dreams formed in my head after this truly magical encounter.
I have always thought that the roots of a tree are directly related its soul. Do you know that there are tree systems that speak directly to each other through their roots? I firmly believe that growing a root system to be strong in love is not only the way to survive, but to thrive! No matter what your beliefs are, love has got to be the centralized theme at your core.
